What Fuel Does F1 Use The teams are supplied by their partners sponsors The fuel needs to be 99 road fuel The other 1 are addtives specificly for the engine track etc This can be a problem for the teams For example Mercedes is sponsored by Petronas
The biggest part of all this is that you re not allowed power boosting compounds in F1 fuel Obviously they need to be optimised because F1 engines are not production engines even at their most road relevant they re still tuned differently However in theory you could fill up either car using the others fuel and you should be ok Mercedes does but there has been cases where teams won t use the oil or fuel they re sponsored by because the engine works better with a different brand It would surprise me if Aston Martin was actually using Petronas but had it in ARAMCO barrels

F1 engines should use an hybrid between HCCI and JTI technology That means that unlike road engines the spark does not light the whole mixture but just a small part which then ignites the mixture in a more homogeneous way That means that the octanes and the flame propagation characteristics must be optimized for this kind of application Hello I m trying to understand how one can estimate fuel consumption during a race and use that information to correct lap time I first saw the fuel corrected lap time being used in this instagram post Currently I m using the fastF1 library to analyze F1 data Any suggestion or links to articles regarding this topic are greatly appreciated
Another reason why both aviation and F1 measure fuel in units of mass is because it makes it easier to evaluate the fuel load s effect on the aircraft and car Added mass is easy to add to the functions for expected acceleration required runway length flaps configuration for take off etc etc Modern F1 PUs are so finely tuned that a change in fuel or lubricants from the ones they ve been designed and tested with could have a meaningful impact on performance Reply reply More replies

So really you could under fuel but you basically wouldn t be able to go on push for a big amount of the race And you should look to conserve I mostly do fuel like 1 lap then get it down to 0 0 then when it gets in the neg I do balance But you might get lucky with a safety car or red flag if you under fuel The hybrid electrical stuff does not change this type of fuel efficiency calculation The difference in energy between a fully charged battery at the start and a mostly depleted one at the end of the race is negligible compared to the energy in 105kg of liquid hydrocarbon fuel
